300th Anniversary Mass at
Scalan Seminary, Sunday 3 July 2016
A large crowd gathered at the Old College at Scalan, in the braes of Glenlivet, to celebrate the 300th Anniversary of its foundation. Archbishop Leo Cushley was the Principal Celebrant at the Mass, and he was joined by Archbishop Philip Tartaglia and Archbishop Mario Conti, together with Archbishop Allen Vigneron of Detroit and Bishop William Nolan of Galloway, and a number of concelebrating priests from the Diocese of Aberdeen and elsewhere.
The Old College at Scalan prepared 64 priests for Scotland from 1716 to 1799, at the crucial time when the penal laws had outlawed priests. The seminary was one of the few places in Scotland where the Catholic faith was kept alive during the eighteenth century.
